Esmeraldas is another of the main ports of Ecuador, besides it is terminal of the Oil line and it has a small airport for internal flights, with connection to Cali, Colombia. Knowns as the green province, is located in the norwester coast of the country, with dry tropical weather, its temperature varies between 20 and 25 degrees. Their main attractiveness constitutes beaches of the South sector and the ecological reserve Cayapas-Mataje, to the north.

The Esmeraldas`s beaches are, without a doubt, its main attractiveness. To 30 Kms. towards the southwest of the province`s capital, Esmeraldas is Atacames, famous South American paradise, that receives tourists all the year. Account with an ample hotel infrastructure. Next to the beach, many bars offer typical drinks with Coconut water, and other exotic and exciting fruits, also are a route with crafts, body accessories and chorale objects. On the levee the main restaurants are located, with the best one of the typical food of the region, because another strong from this beautiful land is its gastronomy, for sample, El Encocado de Pescado, El tapao, El Bollo, patacones, empanadas, bolas de verde and munch more with banana.

Five kilometers to the south we have Súa, other natural paradise, a calm town of fishermen, it offers places to stay too and delicious typical food. Towards the southwest, to 11 Kms., Same rise in the middle of palms and clear waters. And to 48 Kms., is the island of Muisne, with virgin beaches and pacific waters. Other beaches desired for their hospitality are Playa Ancha and Tonsupa, to 20 Kms. of Emeralds. Also, there are other paradise beaches to near to Colombia. For sample, is Camarones, Colope and Rio Verde, surrounded by fishermen towns and craftsmen too.

It is a town very visited by the lovers of the adventure tourism. The travellers arrive until there after on board making the passage between the Mountain range and the Coast of a popular train, call autoferro. Also a highway that unites to San Lorenzo with Ibarra, in the Andean province of Imbabura exists. This lumber port is located to 18 Kms. of the border with Colombia. Between its main distractions they are the virgin beaches of El Cauchal and San Pedro, to very little distance. Also La Chiquita, is a tropical forest, with appropriate routes to know its species of fauna and flora.

This island is a charmed archaeological zone in which one of the older pre-Columbian cultures of Ecuador existed. One thinks that their natives worked the platinum centuries before in Europe. The place counts on a museum of the site administered by the population. It is not difficult to find archaeological rest scattered outdoors. In order to arrive at the island it is necessary to take a boat from the town from San Lorenzo. The impressive low crossing on waters bluish and an intense sun, allows to enjoy also a landscape, manglars and marine birds.

The ecological reserve Cayapas-Mataje is located to the Esmeraldas north, is very extensive and diverse. This zone is characterized mainly by the forest of the Majagual, where more stops of the world rise manglars, whose roots guetting impressive on marshes and little lagoons. Closely together is the town of San Lorenzo; Another great reserve is natural Mache-Chindul to which it is possible to be acceded from Esmeraldas, Atacames, Muisne or Pedernales, between their many attractiveness, are tropical humid forests, cascades and swimming pools. The surface is of 70 thousand hectares and lodges to the indigenous community El Chachis.
