Province El Oro. Great Agricultural and Mineral Wealth. -

Located to the south of the Ecuadorian coast, El Oro has a humid tropical weather. Its temperature average is of 24 degrees. She is world-wide famous by its rich production of banana and has besides a constant commercial activity. Another one of the Ecuadorian ports of importance is in this province: Puerto Bolivar. From this point it is possible to be acceded to the most attractive zone for the national swimmers and foreign tourists La Isla de Jambelí, an incredible tourist destiny with its pacific beach surrounded by manglars and delicious gastronomy with seafood.

Machala. World Capital of Banana. -

In Machala it is celebrated every year, in September, the World-wide Fair of the Banana, with varied events like the international election of Reina del Banano. Its commercial movement has turned it a prosperous, dynamic city with first class hotels and delicious typical gastronomy. The central seat Abdón Calderón with its Cathedral, as their residential zones, are also part of their attractiveness. To just 5 minutes of Machala, in Puerto Bolivar it is possible enjoy the best ceviches of the Pacific Coast.

Arenillas, Pasaje, El Guabo and Santa Rosa, are near towns in the province, special this last one, peculiar town located approximately 20 km to the south of Machala, its attractive tourist are very known, to count with beautiful forests and cascades, but in special by the presence of its river, that today has conformed a great bath concurring in that region, very known as Limon-Playas.

Zaruma, in change, is a calm town located aproximately 70 km towards the Southeastern of Machala, with an almost spring weather, houses of colonial architecture in wood and beautiful windows. It has been onsidered National Patrimony by its beautiful constructions. One of its more wished products is the coffee, that takes place in a constant spring climate that borders the 17 degrees. |
To seven kilometers of Zaruma and 80 of Machala, is Portovelo, traditional to have the older gold mines of the country; also it has wood constructions from begin of the last century. Another town with seen architecture is Piñas, to 65 km of Machala, famous at national and international level by its colorful and exciting car competitions in its hard tracks.

But definetily the greatest attractiveness of El Oro is El archipelago de Jambelí. It is a set of small islands surrounded by manglares, where pacific beaches, rich cleanings and in vegetation extend, this beautiful place serves as refuge to many and colorful species of marine birds, also we found here great variety of crustaceos and fish. Its access is from Puerto Bolivar, crossing the sea on board of a motor boat. Small hosteries and ecological restaurants offer basic comforts for the tourists.

The oldest forest of South America is to 110 km of Machala. Its extension includes an area of 2,659. Is a great sample of trees, vegetables and fossil animals, located in a small valley. The fossilized species date from prehistoric periods and constitute one of the most important ecosystems of the Planet, is a perfect place for Archaeology, Paleontology and the general exploration. |
